  • A statement From Katie's Blog

If you haven't yet visited katie I urge you to do so. She is only 21 as of a week ago and she has 14 children and lives in Uganda. She has the amazima ministries and her journal will make you laugh and cry, but will also awaken you to what Christians should be doing. Her posts are amazing to say the least and her words are so full of wisdom you wouldn't believe she is only 21. Most people I know go to her blog and read a post or 2 and then end up going (as I have) all the way back to the beginning of 2007 and reading her entire journey within a day or 2. Here is part of her last post, please try to visit, you won't be sorry and you will walk away with a renewed sense of what it actually means to be the hands and feet of Christ.

     Francis Chan wrote,

"How we live our days, is how we live our lives." I had to read it several times as I let it soak in. Because it is true. So often we find ourselves waiting for a specific moment, a specific call, something special. For what? How we spend our days... that will be our LIFE. Because today could be it. If Jesus came back today and said, "Let's go!" would we be ready? Would we be doing what we want to be doing when we meet Jesus?

People say to me often, "You are so lucky that you found your calling, that you know your purpose in life." This statement boggles my mind. I AM so blessed to live the life that I do. But it isn't rocket science. God did NOT part the sky and shout out to me, "Katie! Serve my people." I read it in His word. You can too. We can all see as plain as day that Jesus says the number one commandment is to love the Lord and love your neighbor. I happened to move to Uganda and love those neighbors, but that is not the point.

As believers, we should already KNOW our calling; it is to love the Lord and love our neighbors by caring for them in whatever broken state they are in. When He said that "the poor will always be among us" I don't think he meant that as an excuse not to worry about it but as a reminder that there is ALWAYS a neighbor, no matter where we are, in a worse condition than we are. I can only believe that God created us to make this world a little better. That he designed us in love to show that love to others. I just don't know what everyone is waiting for.

Praise God for the katie's in this world. May God always bless and keep her. We love you Katie.

  • Hunger & Homeless here in the USA

    Did you know?

In the United States, 12 million children live in households who have to skip meals to make ends meet. Therefore, one in 10 households in the U.S. are living with hunger or at risk for hunger.
Also in just 11 counties in ohio, there are over 45,000 people living in poverty. It is estimated that over 10 million pounds of food will be needed to serve those who are in need.

Around the world, poverty is pervasive: one billion people lived in poverty in 2001. Poverty and hunger are undeniably linked, so that solving the hunger problem by feeding people, without attacking the poverty problem, does not address the root cause of poverty.

Many homeless individuals will eventually find jobs and homes, and others will take refuge in shelters and satisfy their hunger at soup kitchens. Yet, many others will continue to wander the streets cold, hungry, and hopeless. America’s shelters are simply not large enough, and our food pantries are not stocked enough, to take care of every homeless and hungry person.

Every night more than 1 million children in America face the dark with no place to call home. They are hungry, anxious and often exposed to violence.
There are more homeless children in America now than at any other time since the Great Depression. About 40% of America's homeless are now women and their children - the fastest growing homeless group.

You can help feed the hungry children of America. The week before Thanksgiving is always National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless.

Also Many schools, churches and community groups will use this holiday as an opportunity to host food drives.

    You, alone, can make a difference. Here are just 3 ways you can help;

    1.Check Out Hunger
This scanning fund drive takes place in grocery stores across the country, usually from October through February. You’ll see $2, $3, and $5 donation slips at the check-out counter. Choose one, and hand it to the cashier. Once your slip is scanned, you will have donated 100% of that amount to your local food bank. You’d be amazed, I think, to learn that for every $2 donation made, food banks are able to distribute $25 worth of food to hungry and homeless people.

2.Go Food Shopping for The Hungry & then take directly to our local food bank

    3.Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen

Please help feed the hungry, & shelter the homeless. The holidays are always a good time to start.. We can make a difference. Thanks
